Hiring Off Duty Deputies

     Deputies from the Garland County Sheriff’s Office provide off-duty security, crowd control and traffic details for public and private organizations. This supplementary service is offered to the permitted by existing resources and in accordance with agency policies.

     The current rate for hiring an off-duty deputy is $25.00 per hour, with a three-hour minimum required. Additional information related to scheduling and payment procedures can be obtained by calling (501) 622-3660, during regular business hours, and speaking with Chief Deputy Ray Shoptaw.

Geography

     Garland County land area is 678 square miles with the last census reporting a population of 88,068. The city of Hot Springs is located within Garland County and is reportedly the only city located in a National Park. It is estimated that the Hot Springs area attracts approximately 5 million visitors a year.

     Hot Springs has 47 springs along the base of Hot Springs Mountain and they produce approximately 800,000 gallons of water per day.

     Garland County is home to 3 beautiful lakes with a total of 1295 miles of shoreline. Lake Ouachita, a Corps Of Engineers lake, has 975 miles of shoreline, which is the largest in the state. Lake Hamilton, the most populated of the 3, has 240 miles of shoreline and Lake Catherine has 80 miles of shoreline.

Commendation Procedure

    The Garland County Sheriff’s Office is committed to providing high-quality, professional service to every member of the community. If you feel that a member of the Department exceeded this standard in serving or assisting you, the Sheriff would like to hear from you.

    You may file a commendation in person, by correspondence, telephone, e-mail or by filling out a Commendation Report. Any member of the Department can take the commendation and will forward it to the member’s supervisor and the Sheriff.

Complaint Procedure

    The Garland County Sheriff’s Office is committed to providing high-quality, professional service to every member of the community. If you feel that a member of the did not meet this standard in serving you, or if you suspect a member has engaged in corruption, excessive force or other serious misconduct, the Sheriff’s Department encourages you to file a formal complaint. All complaints against agency members, sworn or civilian, are investigated thoroughly and objectively. Formal complaints may be filed in writing at the Garland County Sheriff’s Office.
