Project Lifesaver was established to help families of Alzheimer’s, Autism, and Down Syndrome members. Garland County Sheriff’s Department Project Lifesaver was started in April of 2006 with donations from the citizens of Garland County. We have five search specialist that are trained in the use of the electronic search equipment. Our “Clients” wear a small wrist transmitter that emits a signal which is received by our tracking equipment. If the client becomes lost, they can be tracked by a search specialist and can normally be located within minutes instead of hours. At this time, we have six clients, two with Alzheimer’s, and four with Down Syndrome. I would like to see this program in every county in Arkansas, or nationwide for that matter. One thing that sets "our" Project Lifesaver program apart from anywhere else is Capt. Shelby Terry. He is dedicated, he is sincere and he truly cares about the families he and his team are helping. I know, because my child wears a bracelet. Losing my son is a nightmare that can happen at any time. Capt. Terry has left whatever he was doing and ran to assist me on several occasions. It doesn't matter what day or what time of day, he has been there. He understands the emotional toll it takes on me as a mother. Capt. Terry goes beyond locating the child. He offers hope, encouragement and peace of mind.
